Today's cancellation of school buses was unfortunate timing for the Canadian Blood Services in Windsor.
"We had a very large group coming from one of the local high schools and with no buses, that means no students to come in and donate," says Elaine St. Pierre, territory manager with the Canadian Blood Services. "So we have some very big holes to fill for our clinic in Windsor."
As a result, donors are desperatedly needed over the next couple of days.
"The need is constant," she says. "We have to collect blood every single day because the hospitals need it every single day so with a last minute cancellation like this, we have some pretty big holes to fill."
She points out on days like today, the need for blood is greater because of the number of car accidents.
A person in a car accident could require up to 50 blood donations.
The clinic on Grand Marais Rd. is open Friday from 8am-12pm and on Saturday from 8am-12pm.
Right now, the Canadian Blood Services has 2.4 days of 0-negative blood supply across the country.
