The Windsor Spitfires came out on the wrong end in the first game of the post Michael DiPietro era — losing to the Sarnia Sting in overtime at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.

Jacob Perreault put Sarnia on the board first two-minutes into the game, staking the Sting to a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Windsor clawed back with back-to-back goals from Daniel D'Amico in the second, but Sarnia answered with back to back goals of their own from Adam Ruzicka and Ryan McGregor to make it 3-2.

Will Cuylle's powerplay-goal to start the third tied things up 3-3 before the Sting answered yet again on Perreault's second of the game for a 4-3 lead.

Cuylle tied things up at 4-4 on his second powerplay-goal of the game with just minutes left to force overtime.

Sarnia would strike last for the win on Kelton Hatcher's fifth goal of the season for a 5-4 finish.

Spitfires' rookie Kari Piiroinen stopped 37 of the 42 shots he faced in the loss.

Windsor heads to Sarnia for a rubber-match Friday night — puck drops at 7:05pm.
