16 murals depicting historical black figures and events in Windsor's Sandwich Towne have found a new home.
The murals had been located on a wall outside of a grocery store on Sandwich St. but the grocery store was sold, so the murals were removed and put in storage for safekeeping.
Windsor City Council voted Monday night to place the murals in Paterson Park this spring.
The Black History murals measure 4 feet by 8 feet tall.
Pastor Caroline Robinson-Dungy says it's the right decision.
"We think that's the best place, where it would be right in Sandwich Town, where a lot of the former slaves came into the city," says Robinson-Dungy.
She's also pleased the city addressed the issue right away.
"It means more that the city is looking at this as an important project, not just the black community, but the city itself realizes how important the black community is and how important these ancestral pictures are," says Robinson-Dungy.
The $60,000 cost of re-installing the murals will be picked up by ward funds from Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante and Ward 5 Councillor Ed Sleiman.
