Samaritan's Purse is joining the flood relief effort in Windsor-Essex.
The Christian disaster relief organization recently arrived in the region yesterday and will focus on helping low-income residents, seniors and people with disabilities.
Frank King is with Samaritan's Purse and says they're looking for local volunteers.
“We train them, we equip them and then we send them out to these homes and essentially we prepare the house to be repaired all at no cost to the homeowner because we've really been blessed by donations from Canadians across the country to equip us to help folks out when they're in these situations.”
Frank King is with Samaritan's Purse and says they'll begin work Tuesday next week, making it their second flood response in Windsor.
“We were there last year and we're there again this year and it's just a shame that these things happen, but this is why we have these disaster relief units set up across the Canada because we know folks need them and so we go, we offer our services.”
Ultimately King says, they go as long as the job requires. “Sometimes that can mean we're somewhere for a couple of months like we were in Southern Alberta after their big floods in 2013 or we can be somewhere as short a time as a week if we just get 10 or 20 orders. So, essentially, we're there as long as we're needed.”
