Salt shipments played a major role in increasing cargo volumes at the Port of Windsor.
A 20% increase in shipments from the K + S Windsor Salt Company made up for a number of other declines.
Port Authority President and CEO David Cree says that increase along with a slight decline in aggregates, left them with an overall increase of 7% compared to 2016 figures.
The port also reports a 4.2% drop in petroleum products handled by Sterling Fuels and steel moving through the Morterm Terminal fell by 7%.
Cree says they're pleased with the final results of 2017 and anticipate moderate growth in 2018 as the construction of the Gordie Howe Bridge gets moving.
