The Town of Kingsville is rolling out a number of safety measures after complaints about several near misses at school crossings.
The changes are coming after the town's crossing guards raised concerns about vehicles not stopping for children.
Human Resources and Office Manager, Angela Lonsbery, says the town is piloting a new system with pylons and enhanced signs with flashing lights.
She says the signs are like what you'd see on a school bus.
"It would be similar to the buses that have the flashing lights. Right now they have the crossing guard paddle, but it's just a simple stop sign. This new, enhanced system will actually have some LED lights that will actually flash. Hopefully draw the attention of the drivers."
Lonsbery is urging drivers to be vigilant.
"From time to time we will dispatch an officer out to stand with the crossing guard on their shift to observe issues. So please just slow down, stop. It's the safety of your community. It's the safety of the children and the safety, of course, of our employees and our crossing guards that are going out there and serving our community on a regular basis."
In addition to the pylons and flashing lights, crossing guards have been re-trained and given whistles to get the attention of drivers.
Lonsbery says the town will also be posting safety reminders at several locations and on social media.
