Medical marijuana will be the focus of a panel discussion being hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Windsor-Essex.
The discussion is part of the third annual public Rotary meeting set for Tuesday evening at the Ciociaro Club. The panel features law enforcement, medical professionals and local medical marijuana producer Aphria.
Organizing Committee Chair Rina Hyland says the public meetings are a chance to bring more people into the Rotary fold and feels medical marijuana is an issue that will draw some attention.
"We wanted a topic that would draw a lot of people in because that would allow us to showcase Rotary to a larger audience and also address a pressing question in the community right now because it's such a topic of interest," says Hyland.
She says the aim of the discussion is to "demystify" some of the issues surrounding medical marijuana use.
"Different people have different perspectives on it and it sometimes can be controversial so, this is a way of trying to take away some of the mystery by answering questions," says Hyland. "I believe anyway that when you educate people [they] have a better perspective, they don't pass judgement."
The panel discussion is set to begin at 7pm followed by a question and answer period. Doors open for the event at 5:30pm with dinner being served around 5:45pm.
Hyland says about 300 tickets have been sold with another 40 likely available at the door.
Tickets are $25.
