There's an opportunity to travel and help people in a developing country.
The Rotary Club of Essex is heading to Ghana in the fall on a humanitarian initiative.
Club president Kim Spirou says for anyone interested in joining, a clean bill of health and a positive attitude are all that's needed to embark on the journey.
She says many people say they want to travel to another country and help — this is their chance.
"We travel to impoverished regions of Africa in order to develop projects that are sustainable and help improve the quality of life for villagers living in absolutely abhorrent, extreme poverty conditions," says Spirou.
She says there's a lot to do.
"We actually complete a number of projects including: renovating or building a new school, we drill water wells while we're there to provide access to clean potable water for people who, unfortunately in Africa have very little access to clean water," says Spirou.
Participants do have to pay their own way and are encouraged to raise funds for projects. The price tag is expected at roughly $2,500 for flights, accommodations and meals.
The humanitarian effort leaves in mid-November.
