Several options are being explored to prevent flooding in Windsor's Riverside neighbourhood.
On Wednesday, a public information session was held to discuss the dyking system along Riverside Dr. and the Ganatchio Trail between St. Rose Beach and the city's boundary with Tecumseh.
Representatives from Landmark Engineers were on hand to go over concept drawings with the public on with the East Riverside Flood Risk Assessment.
With record high lake levels this year on Lake Erie, Lake St.Clair and along the Detroit River, the concept drawings focused on current conditions and proposed solutions.
Some scenarios showed if there was no space available for a sloped berm to hold back the water, what else could be done to assist including the installation of a mechanical gate, install a structural wall or install a wall with an earth berm.
John Matyi has lived on Chateau Ave. for the last 18-years and says he was caught off-guard by some of the information he received.
"I was shocked when I found the area where I live, and more importantly the area just to the north of me, is below the lake level, below the level of Lake Erie. So I'm just shocked to find that out," says Matyi.
Chris Burston lives on Ford Blvd. and while he's not directly impacted by potential flooding, he is wondering what the city's next steps would be.
"They call this a one in 100 year event, I mean 'what do you call it when it gets worse, a one-in-500 year event?' My theory is things are going to start getting worse and we're not going to know what to do," says Burston.
