Riverside Dr. residents were taken by surprise Tuesday as the rain came down and flooding began in their streets.
The Riverside area in Windsor saw the second most rainfall yesterday at 170mm (7 in) according to Environment Canada.
Riverside Dr. at Jefferson Blvd. was closed off by police for several hours.
Pam Golish lives at the corner and says prior to the closure, people were trying to race though the area causing serious problems. She works at Windsor Regional Hospital and she couldn't make it into work because people were parked in her driveway.
"Trucks were trying to bypass, go around all the stalled vehicles, making huge waves because they were speeding through here," says Golish. "They were driving on the sidewalk basically, because you couldn't see where the road was. So you can see the stones have been thrown everywhere."

She says all kinds of vehicles were getting stuck, including a fire truck.
"My next door neighbour, people were turning around because people decided to not go as far as Esdras Pl. They were turning and made big ruts in front of his whole property trying to turn around, rather than turn in his driveway," says Golish.
She says the problems didn't end when the roads reopened. Last night was a struggle.
"My basement, my sump pump failed last night," says Golish. "Fortunately we had one more that was mounted and draining outside. I was awake every 15 minutes last night, making sure (it worked) because of the drainage, we couldn't get the flow to work properly."
This morning her house is a flurry of activity with plumbers and workers,
"We've always been good," says Golish. "We've never had water like this."
