The number of river rescues and recoveries continues to increase for Windsor police.
Chief Al Frederick says officers had to rescue or recover 12 people from the Detroit River in 2017.
He's hoping the trend changes but says they've already had two incidents in 2018.
Frederick says there have been a number of cases where officers had to jump in the water.
"Over the past 12-months there was a large spike there," says Frederick. "We're certainly hoping that, that is something that will wane as time goes on but we understand that this crystal methamphetamine gives the sensation of over heating your body."

Frederick also says one reason for the increase could be drug-use.
"We understand that this crystal methamphetamine gives the sensation of over heating your body and a couple of them that we did, not rescued but fished out of the water, did have that in their blood systems," says Frederick.
The Windsor Police Marine Unit along with Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards assist with the rescues and recoveries.
