The roar of motorcycle engines will be heard Sunday, May 28th for the annual Telus Ride For Dad in Windsor-Essex.
Proceeds raised in the event stay in Windsor-Essex for prostate cancer research and equipment.
Organizers hope to surpass last year's total of $60,000 raised.
Ride Chair Shane Miles says the issue hits close to home for a lot of people.
"People understand the impact," says Miles. "Cancer affects almost every family."
One in seven men are affected by prostate cancer.
Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo's father battled prostate cancer for years. He died a few years ago and DiCarlo was named this year's ride captain to remember his dad.
"He was a prostate cancer survivor. By the time he passed away, he had four different kinds of cancer but prostate cancer is one of those cancers that you can beat and live out the rest of your life," says DiCarlo.
Despite the awareness of prostate cancer and the survival rates with early detection, DiCarlo says some men still don't get tested.
"I just don't get it. It is such a simple process to get checked, I have been getting checked since my 30's because it runs in the family but even if it doesn't, it is such a simple process."
Since 2006 in Windsor-Essex, more than $645,000 has been raised in the event.
The ride begins at 10am on May 28th from the Riverfront Festival Plaza, it heads to LaSalle, Amherstburg, Colchester Bar and Grill, Leamington, to Belle River and back to Windsor.
