A fundraiser to help the local Canadian Mental Health Association is asking people to ride — virtually.
For the past six years, the "Ride Don't Hide" event has raised $240,000 for the Bereavement Program, Client Assistance Fund and Mental Health Education — all programs that are unfunded by the government.
But this year, organizers are asking people to go virtual because of COVID-19.
Instead of using a designated route and cycling side-by-side, organizers are asking people to ride their own route, ride inside, walk, run, do yoga, dance or garden— whatever it takes to take care of your physical and mental health during the month of June.
Local CMHA CEO Claudia den Boer says the goal of the campaign this year is to get people moving.
"Ride, run, walk, hike, you name it, anytime, anywhere, as long or as little as you like, just be sure to following the recommendations by the public health authorities which may change on a daily bases," says den Boer.
The actual fundraising ride date is set for June 28.
