Residents in the Erie-St. Clair region including Windsor-Essex have an above average risk for cancer.
According to the annual Cancer System Quality Index released today by the Canadian Quality Council of Ontario, residents in the Erie-St.Clair region are more likely to smoke, drink more than the recommended amount of alcohol, more likely to be obese and less likely to eat vegetables or exercise.
This region has above average rates of lung, prostate and female breast cancer while there are below average incidents of colorectal cancers in this area.
On the positive side, patient satisfaction is above average for most areas and we have one of the quickest wait times for patient pathology results after surgery.
Over the past 13 years since it was created, the Cancer System Quality Index has raised the bar for cancer care across the province.
