A major residential development has been approved on Boblo Island.
Amherstburg town council has approved the Amico project consisting of 219 units of single-detached homes and townhouses.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the project will mean an increased tax base for the municipality.
"The layout with Boblo is that it's not exactly a large geographic area which limits the town's long term liability as far as infrastructure goes, but we do have a lot of expensive homes on the island so that will translate into a considerable amount of property tax," says DiCarlo.
He says some councillors and residents had some concerns with the project.
"Aboriginal land to the environmental there on the island," says DiCarlo. "I will say that the developer went out of their way to address all of those issues and make sure they have an agreement across of the board."
DiCarlo says the issue has already received approval from the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.
