WINDSOR — A team of researchers at the University of Windsor is teaming up with three local businesses to produce a hand sanitizer.
The researchers are using an ethanol-based by-product and are working with Wolfhead Distillery, InnerSeasonings International and Peak Processing.
Wolfhead Distillery President Tom Manherz says the process started about a week and a half ago.
He says they had a tough time finding glycerol.
"We finally tracked down, we're going to have it Thursday," says Manherz. "So we can put some product together but a huge demand for it everybody from EMS, hospitals, everybody is calling us."
He says hospitals and emergency personnel will receive the product first.
"First responders, hospital people, Leamington hospital, places like that," says Manherz. "EMS has reached out to us, the police department has reached out to us so we're going to take care of those guys first and we'll see what we have left but we should have a fair amount once we get going."
The bottles will be provided by InnerSeasonings while the bottling will be done at Peak Processing in Oldcastle.
