A new report on screening rates by Cancer Care Ontario is showing some positive and negatives trends when it comes to testing.
In the Erie-St.Clair region which includes Windsor-Essex, it found participation rates for breast cancer screening is stable between 2011-2014.
But there has been a decline in local women being screened for cervical cancer from 2009 to 2014.
Regional Primary Care Lead for Cancer Screening and Prevention for the Erie-St. Clair region Dr. John Day says the better the screening rates, the better the outcomes for the three primary cancers in the report which looked at breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening.
The report found only 34% of women aged 50 to 69 were up to date with all three screening tests.
Dr Day says a major concern is that there are some people who have never had a cancer screening test.
"We are always disappointed that a third to 40% of people are still missing their screening tests and a potential big benefit to their overall health," he says.
When it comes to colorectral cancer screening, those men and women who were late to have their testing did drop from 43% in 2012 down to 40% in 2014.
