It appears the rental scam has resurfaced in Windsor again.
Investigators with Windsor police have recently received a number of complaints after victims forwarded funds to the offender.
In once case, a victim lost $1,700 in a security and down payment while another person lost $500 as a security deposit.
In the scam, suspects pose as landlords but they have no connection to any rental property.
The offender advertises a property for rent, usually over the internet and will respond to people searching for an apartment to rent.
The suspect is usually out of the country and not able to meet in person. They will also pressure the potential renter to provide a deposit or personal banking information.
Police are asking tenants to be vigilant and do some research before sending money or personal information.
