The giant Christmas tree in Jackson Park is coming down this week.
The 64-ft. tree was installed in the park for the Bright Lights Festival.
The parking lot and sunken garden will be closed until March 2 for the heavy equipment and to dismantle, dry and store the tree properly.
Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, Mayor Drew Dilkens says taking down the tree is complicated work.
"You got a $400,000 tree sitting in Jackson Park," says Mayor Dilkens. "It is a very complex structure to set up and tear down and when you take it down, you have to make sure that the branches aren't frozen, that you are not damaging anything."
He says there have been post Bright Lights meetings looking forward to this year's festival which will take place again at Jackson park.
The City of Windsor estimates 60,000 people took part in the month-long Bright Lights Festival which wrapped up January 9th.
