Andreas Athanasiou scored twice as the Detroit Red Wings held off the Rangers 3-2 in New York.
Frans Nielsen also scored for Detroit, which led 2-0 after two and held on for its second straight win.
Jimmy Howard denied 41-of-43 shots in the win. Ryan Strome's power-play goal got New York on the board with less than five minutes to play.
Brendan Smith also tallied with 10 seconds left to get the Rangers close.
New York has lost five straight and 11 of its last 12 NHL games. Henrik Lundqvist had 27 saves in defeat.
Detroit continues its five-game road trip in St. Louis Thursday night.
