Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves as the Red Wings snapped a 16-game losing skid to the Lightning.
Brayden Point and Patrick Maroon scored in the third to get the Bolts even.
Curtis McElhinney allowed four goals for Tampa Bay, which has split its last four games.
The Wings are home against the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night.
