Andreas Athanasiou and Thomas Vanek both scored twice.
Daren Helm, Anthony Mantha, Luke Witkowski and Dylan Larkin also had goals. Jimmy Howard made 30 saves in the win.
Jonathan Toews scored twice for the Hawks, who dropped to 1-and-3 in exhibition play.
The Wings are in Boston to take on the Bruins tonight.
