The firstplace Red Sox breeze past the Tigers to take two of the three game series

Chris Sale cruised through six innings of scoreless ball as the Red Sox clobbered the Tigers 9-1 in Detroit.  

Sale struck out nine and allowed just two hits to pick up his 11th win.  

Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a three-run homer for Boston while Eduardo Nunez and Andrew Benintendi had two RBI apiece.  

The Red Sox improved their big-league best record to 70-and-31.  

Tigers starter Blaine Hardy surrendered four runs in three-plus innings to take the loss.

Jeimer Candelario broke up the shutout with a solo shot in the seventh as Detroit fell to 42-and-59.

The Tigers head to Kansas City to open a series with the Royals tonight.  Francisco Liriano will take the ball for Detroit.  

Kansas City will counter with Heath Fillmyer.   

The Tigers are 42-and-59, 13-and-a-half games behind first place Cleveland in the AL Central.
