March is Fraud Prevention Month and the RCMP is looking to crack down on fraudsters duping Canadians out of their hard earned cash.
The "Crush the CRA Scam" campaign will focus on the scam that involves a caller claiming to be with Revenue Canada and that a payment is needed immediately, or else.
Sergeant John Mecher says since the scam began in 2014, thousands of people have lost hundreds of thousand of dollars.
Mecher says they're using all avenues to get the word out. "If we're able to reach everybody we'll be able to kill this scam off. So we've tried several different venues, traditional media, we've tried social media alerts, we've done numerous presentations. We'll take calls from individual victims and reassure them that this is a scam. Do not send these people any money."
