Friday is Random Act of Kindness Day in Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor-Essex Community Foundation has been shining a spotlight on kindness on the first day of November for nine years.
Buy someone lunch, say something nice, help a senior carry their groceries, or simply smile, are just a few things residents can do to celebrate
Executive Director Lisa Kolody says sometimes people need to be reminded being nice should be part of everyday life.
"Once a year the WECF reaches out to the community at large and says let's make kindness the norm and let's promote our community and the people in it and really show some kindness," she says.
Kolody tells AM800 News the whole community steps up year in and year out.
"As simple as opening the door or buying someone a coffee, leaving them a nice note," says Kolody. "We reached out to the high schools and we found they like to do post it notes where they say nice things about each other. We've had schools that go into communities and rake the leaves or do something kind for neighbours too."
She residents should share their stories to inspire others.
"Share the stories. Most of us do it just because we want to be nice, but if you share the stories maybe we can have that trending and make kindness the norm," she added.
Random Acts of Kindness Day was founded in the U.S. in 1995 and has since spread worldwide.
Visit the WECF website for some ideas on how you can make someone's day better.
