The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear returns to the Motor City this weekend.
Besides the IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will also race on Belle Isle.
Simon Pagenaud, a former winner in Detroit, comes in on the heels of winning last Sunday's Indy 500, and he's the series overall points leader.
Two years ago Graham Rahal swept the Detroit event winning both the Saturday and Sunday races. His dad, Bobby also won in the Motor City back in 1986.
Graham Rahal tells AM800 Sports, although he races for Honda, he says this event wouldn't happen if not for Chevrolet's involvement.
"You know I've raced for Honda my entire career, and we were lucky the last two years, as Honda swept this race, but at the same time I've got tremendous respect for everyone from GM," says Graham. "You know Mark Reuss is an amazing guy, Terry Dolan, Jim Campbell and everyone who's a part of GM"
Rahal says being available to the media and fans is part of the job.
"It's just part of our business, and each and everyone of us is face of a brand that sponsors us or our team or teammates or everything else, so it's important," adds Rahal.
The first Detroit Grand Prix was in 1982 and it started as a Formula One race through the streets of downtown Detroit before changing to Indy Cars and moving to Belle Isle in 1992.
The 2019 event marks the 30th Grand Prix in Detroit's history.
