A Windsor philanthropist is opening up his cheque book again.
Alan Quesnel has donated just over $2-million to the Windsor Jewish Federation.
Jay Katz is the Executive Director of the W-J-F and says Quesnel asked the money to be split between Christians United for Israel and the Windsor Jewish Community.
"In this case he wanted to bring a gap between two religious communities that he has a great deal of respect and he reached out to us and this is what we ended up with," says Katz.
He says a few local Jewish community groups will be receiving funds.
"Half of it will be going to Christians United for Israel which is an organization that funds humanitarian groups across the state of Israel and the other half will be going to three Jewish organizations, the Windsor Jewish Community Center, the Jewish National Fund and the United Jewish Appeal and those will be used for social service programming and our local programming," says Katz.
He says the federation was surprised with the donation.
"It's started with a phone call from him," Katz explains. "It's not surprising that he wants to do this because this is the sort of philanthropist that he is and he cares about his community but we were not expecting a call so it was a surprise to us."
The donation was made earlier this week and will support local programming and services.
