Amherstburg is making moves to make sure visitors have a place to stay.
Town council has approved the demolition of 305 Dalhousie Street.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says, while he can't elaborate on the details for the property, he can say the plan will help with the lack of accommodations in the town.
He says the most common complaint he gets from out-of-towners is they have nowhere to stay and adds, the town has been trying to attract a hotel development for quite some time.
"I don't think it's a secret of what we've been trying to attract here. This is, let's call it, the final step in realizing some accommodations that the town has needed for quite some time and are very anxious to get underway," says DiCarlo.
He says proper accommodations for visitors are long overdue, saying "we are known now for not just our festivals and events, but our sports tourism is taking off. We just had the provincial gymnastics finals in the Town of Amherstburg and it truly hurt to have people stay everywhere but the Town of Amherstburg. Some people actually had to go home."
An official announcement about what's in store for 305 Dalhousie Street is expected to come in the very near future.
The property is directly across the street from the recently demolished Duffy's Tavern.
