A public meeting meeting is set for this evening to go over a planned condo development in Tecumseh.
The new five-storey, 44-unit building would go up at 11957 Tecumseh Rd. E near Shawnee Rd.
The meeting is set for 6pm ahead of tonight's regular council meeting and will review the proposed zoning changes needed to allow the project to move forward.
Mayor Gary McNamara says the development shows the area is transitioning into a place people want to be.
"We're starting to see now a migration of folks willing to live in that core and now the next phase after that is to bring the servicing with it."
He sees the new project as a sign the town's plans for the area are working.
"The town for years has been looking at, 'How do we intensify that area and bring folks down?'" says McNamara. "We've expended a lot of dollars developing that plan with the help of our residents — now you're seeing the fruits of that hard work."
McNamara says the corridor the new condo is planned for is becoming a hot destination.
"If you look across the street [you see] Frank's Brewery, just further east from there, the Job Shoppe and what they've done to that building. We want buildings now to be the amenities to make it pedestrian friendly and that whole streetscape — it just adds to the ambiance of that area."
McNamara hopes to see construction begin in the fall.
