The City of Windsor will be giving away hand sanitizer later this week as residents continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
While supplies last, there will be a no-contact drive-thru at the WFCU Centre on Thursday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to Michael Chantler with the city, this is the first distribution for the general public.
"Prior to this we were taking care of small business and originally we were working with the hospitals and first responders, long-term care facilities and those types of organizations," he says.
According to Chantler says residents have indicated that there is a need for hand sanitizer.
"We are in the enviable position where we do have enough product now where we have provided a supply to our businesses after taking care of first responders, hospitals and healthcare and now that we've got some product available and we've got some containers we've been able to decant, we can now make that available to the public," he says.
Distribution will also be open to more than City of Windsor residents
"We won't be checking people's identification,” says Chantler. “I mean if someone wants to come through and they live in Essex or McGregor or Belle River, we of course will provide them with some sanitizer. We have 375ml bottles and we're going to give four to each vehicle that comes through."
Drivers are asked to enter through the intersection of McHugh Street and Mickey Renaud Way, and then follow the signage to the depot tents.
According to the city, the sanitizer being distributed is produced to World Health Organization standards.
