You've heard the phrase "the writing's on the wall."
High Schools in the Greater Essex County District School Board will soon make use of the idea to teach students about cannabis.
A partnership between the board and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit will have posters in washrooms throughout the board.
Superintendent Sharon Pyke says the messages will be in highly visible locations.
"All of these posters which are going to be encased with Plexiglas are fixed to the back of washroom stalls or above the urinals and they are going to have some sort of health message. We're starting with cannabis because there are so many myths out there that we needed to combat the myths with the facts"
Pyke gives an example of one of the four messages.
"It's a picture of a young man and it says 'if I only had one toke then I could drive absolutely fine' and then underneath it is big letters, the fact about that that cannabis doubles the risk of being in a serious crash. So it's those kinds of messages that we're putting out"
Pyke is optimistic the low-tech messages will have an impact for youth who live in a high-tech world.
She adds they'll continue to update those messages.
Kennedy Collegiate will be the first school where the posters will be installed and all the high schools in the system will have them by the end of January.
