The Ontario government is looking to eliminate and merge the number of police service boards across the province.
The intention was learned about during a recent meeting of police service boards from across Ontario.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain says they haven't been given much detail yet, but the overall plan is to reduce the number of boards.
He says it could mean all the municipalities serviced by the Ontario Provincial Police would have a single board.
If approved, Bain believes there's a possibility the five OPP service boards in Essex County could be united.
He's worried about how communities would be represented.
"Presently most of the boards have provincial appointees, they have municipal appointees and they have council members, so I think you're well represented," says Bain. "If we make one board, there's a possibility of one per municipality."
He says the local boards will need to do some 'brain storming' including the idea of two boards, one for north Essex County and one for the southern portion.
"What we're trying to do here is be a little proactive. I believe we're going to go ahead with a general meeting of our five local police boards and take a look at how we can be proactive in this area and come up with a solution that's going to be beneficial for each of us," he says.
Bain adds that the idea of regional policing with the Windsor Police Service is something else they could discuss.
