The province is investing to make it easier for rural communities to get connected.
Joined by Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott, Minister of Agriculture Ernie Hardeman and Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton in Lucan on Tuesday, Premier Doug Ford announced the province's first-ever $315-million plan to improve and expand internet and cell phone service.
It includes $150-million for a new broadband fund to drive investment and expansion to unserved and underserved communities.
The province expects it will generate up to $1-billion in total investments over five years and will result in new connections for up to 220,000 homes and businesses.
Several municipalities in Essex County such as Lakeshore, Kingsville and Amherstburg have struggled to bring high-speed fibre internet to every home.
