The province has taken a $12.8-million step to improve internet access in Essex County.
Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued by the Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology initiative or SWIFT.
Officials noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for reliable internet for work and play.
The RFP for Essex County closes on July 31 and the contract will be awarded shortly after.
