A warning from the Windsor-Essex County District School Board.
The board sent out a recorded telephone message to all post secondary students homes on Thursday, advising parents the board does not endorse or sanction any prom parties.
Communications Co-ordinator Stephen Fields says the message suggested parents talk to their children about prom parties and discourage them from attending.
He says the board felt it was important to warn parents.
"We understand that prom season is fun, proms are suppose to be a celebration but at the same time, we want to make sure that our students are being safe and the best way to do that is to avoid unsafe situations," says Fields.
A news release was sent out by the Essex County OPP earlier this month that stated police are often called to investigate criminal reports of assault, drug and alcohol offences, sexual assaults, thefts and mischief stemming from these types of parties.
