A Tecumseh man is going to prison for three years for a fatal drunk driving crash that killed his girlfriend.
Jeffrey Wilson, 47, pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm in a crash in November 2017 on McHugh St. in east Windsor.
Court heard Wilson and the victim, 39-year-old Cynthia Cosgrave, also known as Cindy Harrison, were in a relationship and had been out where he had some drinks.
Wilson had slightly more than double the legal limit of blood-alcohol in his system and was going 120 km/hour upon impact when his car hit another vehicle.
Harrison was a passenger in the car and was partially ejected.
She was a single mother of two and court heard her five year old daughter asks, 'when is mommy coming back from heaven?'
Outside of provincial court, Wilson's lawyer Brian Ducharme says Wilson did the right thing with the early guilty plea.
"He wanted to take full responsibility for his actions on that night. He loved Ms. Harrison deeply and he will carry that loss for the rest of his life."
Ducharme says Wilson is hurting.
"He drank in excess and made the terrible mistake of driving that resulted in a tragedy, as her honour pointed out, a death to the woman he loved."
Before being sentenced, Wilson told the court that he deeply regrets his actions and is sorry for the pain and suffering he has caused.
