The burn will take place today
A "prescribed burn" is on the way for the Spring Garden Natural Area in west Windsor Monday.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority says the 11 acre controlled burn is necessary to "maintain a healthy and diverse ecosystem" in the Ojibway Prairie area, the largest remaining stand of tall grass prairie left in Ontario.
Similar maintenance efforts have been conducted over the past three decades.
Neighbouring residents have been notified.
