Despite pushing for an extension of the closure at the GM plant in Oshawa, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the automaker's position has not changed.
Ford met with GM President Mark Reuss and other GM executives at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Tuesday.
He says he was glad to hear GM re-iterate its commitment to continue major auto manufacturing in Ontario, including at their Ingersoll and St. Catharines plants, as well as expanding state-of-the-art automotive engineering in Markham, Oshawa and across Ontario.
Following a meeting with Unifor, Premier Ford promised to press GM to extend operations in Oshawa to give workers more time, but GM declined.
Ford released a statement after Tuesday's morning indicating, "during our meeting I once again expressed my commitment to the GM workers in Oshawa and discussed opportunities to support them.'
