Ontario Premier Doug Ford is sending Windsor some love.
During this daily COVID-19 update on Thursday, Premier Ford gave a special shout-out to Windsor for conducting random drive-thru testing for the virus.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit launched random testing last weekend in Windsor, and it has continued throughout the week in Essex County.
Ford gives credit to Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the local medical officer of health, offering him a thank-you.
He called it a team effort to conduct random testing.
"They worked with police, city staff, parks and recreation to organize road closures, re-routing cars to allow drive-thru testing and they did 1,800 tests over three days," said Ford.
He also encouraged Windsor to continue doing great work, pointing to Windsor as the example of how to get things done.
"I just want to give a shout-out to the doctor and the police and everyone who helped out down in Windsor, you guys are champs. I hear you are going to the Chrysler assembly to test people, that's what we need to do," added Ford.
As of Thursday, there were 996 confirmed case of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.
