The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a health precaution for anyone who attended a hair transplant clinic.
It is asking anyone who went to the Guaranteed Hair Transplant Clinic at 1291 Wyandotte St. East between April 2017 and November 2018 to follow up with their doctor for further assessments.
The precaution is being issued after a report and investigation found a breach of infection and control practices at the facility in November.
A health unit inspection found that the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of the medical devices on site did not follow provincial standards.
"During the inspection, it was noted that there may have been what we call an IPAC lapse, which is Infection Prevention and Control lapse with their reprocessing sterilizing of their equipment," says Enviroinment Health Manager Phil Wong.
Wong admits the risk of infection is low.
"It depends on how long inbetween patients there are. So if a person was just before you and you came in right after, from our understanding there could've been some time inbetween so there's a low probability, " he says. "But there is that chance, so the best thing to do is for anybody who potentially used the services should go talk to their physician."
At this point, nobody has been diagnosed with any blood-born diseases.
The clinic is no longer in operation.
The health unit is asking people who attended the clinic to get a follow-up on blood work that could include hepatitis B, C and HIV.
