It was Windsor's turn Thursday to tell the Ontario government what it would like to see in the next provincial budget.
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance Yvan Baker heard 30 presentations today from hospital officials, city officials and social agencies.
"It is really important that it (the budget) reflects the priorities of the people of Ontario and that we are working hard to address their concerns. Today is about listening to the people of Windsor, to hear from the leaders of the community what their priorities to see what we can do through the budget to address those," said Baker.
He admits some of the concerns are similar across the province.
"I have heard that people are struggling with the cost of living in general, and hydro is an important component of that," he said.
In attendance at the consultations were Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj and Hotel-Dieu Grace Health Care CEO Janice Kaffer as the new acute care hospital is on top of mind for local health care officials. Kaffer also raised the issue of mental health.
The city through Mayor Drew Dilkens and CAO Onorio Colucci are asking for stable predictable infrastructure funding, a multi-year capital program for new social housing, energy cost reduction incentives, provincial approvals for the next phase of the mega hospital project and funding to help transfer the Paul Martin building to the University to become a law school.
