Canada Post employees have returned to full service, as legislated by the federal government, but not with smiles on their faces.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says it's still examining all options to fight the back-to-work order. In Tecumseh, Windsor and District Labour Council set up picket lines at a processing centre, blocking mail trucks in protest.
A statement from Canada Post says the company is now "working to stabilize operations with a manageable approach across the country" with the company, "currently facing unprecedented backlogs, customers can continue to expect delivery delays for the next several weeks."
President of CUPW Local 630 Phil Lyons spoke with AM800's Patty Handysides on The Afternoon News. He says statements about a back-log that the company used to sway public and political opinion are frustrating to hear.
"We certainly couldn't find the back-logs they were talking about," he says. "We were finding these trailers that would hold 48 steel-monos of parcels, we were finding them coming from Toronto with three and four in them. It that's a company that cares about the environment, they have lots to learn."
Lyons tells Handysides another work stoppage is inevitable.
"Putting strike signs away just so we can take them back out in four years because I'm sure that's right where we'll land if this corporation isn't cleaned up from the top," says Lyons.
At the end of the day, Lyons says postal workers won't let swallowing a bitter pill trickle down to their routes.
"We're professionals, we love our customers, we see them every day," he says. "It's not going to filter down. I guess we just go on from here."
Canada Post says deliveries during the peak holiday season and into January 2019 will continue as existing backlogs are expected to worsen this week due to high volumes from Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
The letter mail backlog should be cleared and deliveries current before Dec. 25.
Lyons points out the existing backlog is no worse than it's been every year during the holiday season.
