A baby is safe following a police pursuit in Amherstburg.
The investigation began Monday after Leamington OPP reported a theft and possible parental child abduction.
Around 11:20am, an Amherstburg police officer spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to stop it but it failed to stop.
The driver of the car was speeding and crashed into a number of objects including parked cars and a police cruiser.
For safety reasons, police followed at a safe distance when the car eventually stopped on the front lawn of a home on Fort Street.
The driver got out of his vehicle with a nine-month-old baby.
"He went into the residence which happened to be a relative of his and was immediately apprehended," says Amherstburg Constable Shawn McCurdy.
McCurdy says the suspect's driving was extremely dangerous.
No one was hurt.
McCurdy says yesterday's snow storm didn't help.
"Definitely not ideal for even normal traffic with the snow and definitely not with a pursuit and that was one of the considerations in not pursuing the vehicle. We did try to stop it safely and unfortunately that didn't work."
The Children's Aid Society was contacted.
