Police are asking the public to use alternative crime reporting tools for non-emergencies in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Windsor Police Service currently has an online reporting system for pretty much everything, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge.
"We're spreading the word again about the tremendous variety of community needs that can be met by our service via our online options," he says.
Those options include:
If it's life or death, 911 is always the answer, but Betteridge says non-emergencies can be reported online and officers will follow up.
"Our communications centre, nothing has changed there. Any 911 situation is exactly that and our officers are on the road patrolling and responding," he says. We're thinking about the social responsibility and the goal is prevention in dealing with this COVID-19 virus. Our service is still open, 100 per cent, our hours of operation even at our headquarters for people to come in have not changed.”
Chatham-Kent Police announced they will be screening visitors to their facilities over the coming weeks.
Betteridge says Windsor police have looked at that option, but aren't ready to move forward with screening at this time.
