Windsor police spent Sunday afternoon searching for a 14-year-old swimmer who went missing in the water near Sandpoint Beach.

Shortly after 3 p.m., officers were dispatched to a possible drowning at Sandpoint Beach, located in the 10,000 block of Riverside Drive East.

Police say two teenagers were swimming just west of the beach when one went under the water and did not resurface.

The second teenager flagged down a nearby boater and called for police assistance.

The service's Marine Unit quickly began a search, and enlisted support from the Coast Guard, Canadian Armed Forces, and Ontario Provincial Police.

As of Sunday evening, the missing swimmer had not been located.

Police say the search will continue Monday.
