Two alleged car thieves have been arrested after fleeing police earlier this week.
Windsor Police Service was notified a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
A plainclothes officer located the stolen truck near Wyandotte and McDougall Street just after 10am and called it in, according to police.
Patrol officers caught up to the stolen vehicle on Parent Avenue near Erie Street, police attempted to pull over the truck, but the suspect vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Police say the officers called off the pursuit in the interest of community safety and found the truck abandoned in the area of Benjamin and Langlois Avenue a short time later.
Officers set up a perimeter and located two people in a nearby alley on foot; the pair attempted to flee from police again, but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
Investigators were able to link the pair to the stolen truck after one suspect was found to be in possession of property stolen from inside the recovered vehicle.
A 34-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failing to stop for police.
A 29-year-old woman, also of no fixed address, has been charged with Possession of stolen property over $5,000.
