After what most would call a mild winter, Mother Nature will return to Windsor-Essex with a vengeance this week.
Environment Canada's Marie-Eve Giguere says the dreaded Polar Vortex is on its way to Ontario. Up to 15cm of snow could fall Monday as temperatures rise to near freezing for the last time into the evening.
Giguere tells AM800 News daytime highs will likely peak at around -10C Tuesday and stay that way for a while.
"I know we've had some cold days but overall it was slightly warmer than normal, but now we're definitely seeing a change in the situation and this cold air is just going to sit over us for the next few weeks," she says.
She says high winds will make it even colder.
"We're looking at wind-chill around -20C the next few days when it's windy," says Giguere. "Make sure to avoid any exposed skin, especially for little kids."
The Polar Vortex is a cold air-mass that can descend from the Artic at some points during the winter.
