Developments continue to be made toward expanding Windsor's housing market.
The city's planning committee has moved forward a proposal to approve draft plans for three new subdivisions. The largest of the proposed subdivisions is the Cierra Meadows Development, which spans 18 blocks and is located in East Windsor.
The development will consist of townhouse dwellings and will be built on Guy St. near the former St. Joseph's Catholic High School.
Planning Committee member Irek Kusmierczyk says there has been a large increase in the demand for new housing units in the city. He says the upturn in housing developments can be linked to the Windsor's economy.
"Now what we are seeing is almost every planning committee we are seeing one or two or three applications," says Kusmierczyk. "It is something that really testifies to the strength and the health of the economy in Windsor. The developers have faith that there is a demand for homes."
He says the new developments will help ease the pressure off the Windsor housing market.
"The demand for new homes is huge and that is one of the reasons that is driving the huge increases in housing prices and the fact that there are so many bidding wars taking place as well," says Kusmierczyk. "So developers are really scrambling to put capacity and new homes online."
The proposed subdivisions will be discussed by city council at an upcoming meeting
