Repairs to the Belle River Marina will be discussed at town council Monday in Lakeshore.
Record high lake levels have left a portion of the docks and boat ramp under water.
Mayor Tom Bain says council will consider spending nearly $20,000 on a temporary solution to avoid having to close the marina.
He says neighbouring municipalities have had to close their marinas — Lakeshore wants to make sure that doesn't happen.
"We want to be able to keep the boaters we've got there and allow them to be able to safely get in and out of that marina," says Bain. "So we're looking at raising the docks in most of the areas and this will allow us to continue with our marina being open."
He calls the marina a busy spot, saying it would be a shame to have to close it.
"There's a lot of boat traffic there in the area. Certainly, we have all of our wells rented out and there's those coming in to fish who have to line up to get in and out of the water. So we have a lot of boat traffic there," says Bain.
Record high water levels on Lake Erie and Lake St.Clair have already forced the closure of Riverside Marina and Lakeview Park Marina in Windsor and a boat ramp in LaSalle.
Bain says boaters have been asking the town to do something.
"They've expressed huge concern in that they don't want to have to be told we're closing down a certain section of the marina and you're going to have to move your boat elsewhere. That's a situation that we don't want to have to face," he says.
Also on the town agenda tonight, final site plan approvals for a new McDonald's restaurant and Holiday Inn Express.
