Andre Drummond racked up 31 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Pistons, who have won three in-a-row 10-of-12 overall to move back above the .500 mark at 32-and-31.
Luke Kennard netted 21 points off the bench and Ish Smith scored 19 in the victory.
Karl-Anthony Towns tallied 24 points to pace Minnesota, which has lost four-of-five NBA games to dip to 30-and-35.
The Pistons are on the road against the Bulls Friday night in the first of home-and-home series, with Detroit hosting Chicago Sunday afternoon.
